Recycling will be carried out by our sister company, Leinster Environmentals.
Leinster Environmentals is an award-winning family-run plastics recycling specialist offering safe & reliable plastics recycling solutions to producers of scrap & waste plastic across the UK & Ireland.
Once sorted, plastics from Leinster Environmentals go on to supply moulding companies, compounders and converters of plastics with high quality plastic regrinds and raw materials for use in the plastics moulding industry.
Malt bags are predominantly made of PP Polypropylene (No. 5 plastic resin code).
Some malt bags have a liner, which is made from LDPE Low Density Polyethylene (No. 4 plastic resin code).
Leinster Environmentals specialises in the compliant and traceable recycling of these (and other) waste plastic materials.
Leinster Environmentals partners with specialist Polypropylene recyclers in the EU to process and recycle BOBs into high quality, low carbon sustainable raw materials which are used to manufacture new plastic items including packaging, construction materials and car parts.
Waste & Recycling is a complex business. There is a raft of environmental legislation in the UK and IE which much be complied with, and a number of regulators, including the Environment Agency (EA), Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA), & National TFS Office (NTFSO in Ireland). Detailed reports must be submitted to all of these agencies on a monthly basis detailing the origin, carrier and destination of each consignment (ie truck load) of waste bought AND sold.
Our record so far is 79 malt bags inside a single bag, bringing the total bags being recycled to 80. We'll be keeping tabs of the number of bags in a BOB, & we challenge you to beat our number (there may be a prize for the winner).
We will not charge you for your BOB recycling. All we ask is that you arrange & pay for the shipping.
Our BOB recycling scheme is an industry first as we are taking on the full cost of recycling malt bags.
This is a pioneering industry-first approach as we seek to work with breweries to reduce our collective plastic waste.
As it stands, our BOB bag recycling scheme is open to all Loughran Brewers Select customers even if those who don't buy all their malt from us.
You will only need to pay to ship your used malt bags to us.
As we are taking on the full cost of recycling the malt bags, a fair usage policy applies to recycling malt bags from malt suppliers we don't work with.
We reserve the right to modify our policy as the scheme evolves, but we'll always inform you if we need to start charging to recycle malt bags.
In our experience, a zip tie works best to seal your BOB, & provides the easiest means for us to break down the BOB once we receive it.
You can send us a pallet of BOBs, provided you arrange for & pay for the shipping, and use one of the three approved couriers.
If you're sending a pallet of BOBs, you'll only need one BOB form, but you will need to make sure you've recorded the weight of the BOBs on the pallet.
You must use one of the three couriers listed above.
DHL, APC & Parcelforce hold the relevant Waste Transfer licence to handle commercial waste.
As mentioned above, the waste & recycling sector is heavily regulated, and we cannot accept BOBs shipped via different couriers as a result.
To aid our operations team, we request that you print out & include you BOB form with your BOB shipment.
We may be able to accept printed forms in the future, but as we're still developing the scheme we'll need to keep things as simple as possible at this stage.
We require a separate form for each BOB shipment for full traceability & to ensure full compliance with government regulations.
